Amber Sperling
Amber A Sperling, MSW RSW, PMH-C
Amber Sperling a Social Worker, Psychotherapist with over 12 years experience providing mental health treatment in a variety of settings. She began her career in inpatient psychiatric hospital with patients experiencing severe and persistent mental illness then moved to primary health care where she expanded her knowledge in treating trauma, managing chronic disease symptoms and enhancing client abilities to reach their goals and become the best versions of themselves.
Amber holds honours degrees at Carleton University in Psychology and Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Law, with a Masters in Social Work at Wilfred Laurier University with a primary focus on individuals, families and groups and secondary focus on community, policy, planning and organizations. She also completed an international placement in Moshi Tanzania providing community engagement and psychosocial support groups for vulnerable children and youth.
Amber holds Advanced Certificate Practicum in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy with the Albert Ellis Institute, is working toward certification in EMDR and has completed trainings and certificates in trauma treatment, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Acu-detox (NADA protocol) and mindfulness. She was also one of the first Canadians to receive certification from Postpartum Support International in Perinatal Mental Health.
Clients express appreciation for Amber's client centered approach, beginning by defining goals and building skills and resources for managing distress. Amber believes distressing experiences can be transformed to memories instead of carried as the defining piece of your identity. Anxiety and depression do not need to be barriers for wellness long term and evidence based treatments are available.
Amber holds registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Ontario Association of Social Workers, EMDR Canada, and National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
When not providing psychotherapy in the community, Amber enjoys spending time with her family, being by the lake, traveling and coaching dragon boat teams.
Amber strives to support her clients in creating and achieving individualized and functional goals with compassion and empathy.
